Subject to funding and enrolment. Position may be filled by more than one applicant as there is leave replacement work and additional workload available.

  Leave Replacement: Appointment end date may be extended or end early dependent on return of incumbent.
Workload: Varied hours, up to 25 hours per week of direct instruction. Alternate workweek schedule in place (direct instruction delivered Monday to Thursday).

Location: Nanaimo Campus
Duties: Provide daily classroom and/or computer lab instruction to students in the Applied Business Technology Program (as well as curriculum development as required). Program hours are 8:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday to Thursday; classes are 180-minutes long twice a week (M/W and/or T/Th); specific class days and times are TBA.

The focus of instruction is a combination of theoretical study and practical application. Secondary responsibilities include participation in departmental meetings, record keeping, general department curriculum maintenance and other college-related activities.

  Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success through ongoing professional training, subject currency, and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and department committees; meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications: Provincial Instructor's Diploma or equivalent (if in progress, maximum of two years to complete from date of hire). Bachelor's Degree in an ABT related field from an appropriately accredited institution, or a suitable combination of both formal training and relevant recent adult teaching experience in fields directly related to ABT. Three to five years current teaching experience in ABT or OADM field in a post-secondary setting. Demonstrated experience in meeting determined outcomes and ABT evaluation standards. Proven ability in classroom management. Thorough working knowledge of computer applications (MS 2010 Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Database and Publisher). Excellent communication skills both written and oral. A high level of energy and enthusiasm is essential. Proven positive interpersonal skills in dealing with students. Sensitivity to the needs of a wide variety of adult students returning to education. Willingness and ability to work effectively as part of a team comprised of instructors, administrators, support staff and students. Demonstrated current experience with computer applications and office procedures.
Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record (as specified in Vancouver Island University policy and procedures).
