  Vancouver Island University Library is seeking a professional librarian to join our team in a learning-centred and collaboratively-managed academic library. Vancouver Island University (VIU) has four campus locations on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. This position will be based at the Nanaimo campus. Travel to other campuses may be required in the course of duties. VIU is primarily an undergraduate teaching university that offers a wide range of academic and vocational programs to 17,200+ students annually (approximately 8,400 FTE). VIU demonstrates a strong commitment to regional needs in its programs and services, which include aboriginal and international education and a growing number of graduate programs. Guided by the VIU academic plan, Framing Our Future (2010), VIU Library offers expertise, collections, spaces and technologies that support a wide range of learning and research activities. Duties: About you:

About your role:

Provide leadership to articulate learning outcomes that are expressed in Library initiatives, that animate the Library mission and its relationship to the Academic Plan, and that are inspired by related research and best practices.

Work with the library team and other partners to plan and implement an integrative program that promotes information literacy and learning outcomes in the first year and beyond. Your evidence-based insights and strategies enhance the library user experience.

Collaboratively develop and implement diverse strategies to infuse information literacy and learning outcomes into formal and informal, in-person and virtual learning spaces and commons. Your strategies are grounded in andragogy and are technology-enabled. Managing multiple channels is just part of what you do.

Foster relationships and work with classroom faculty as supporting partners in Library curriculum design and implementation; student engagement with learning is your focus and your touchstone.

Through leadership promote a supportive peer culture and spirit of inquiry, encourage professional development related to information literacies and learning outcomes and supporting technologies. Be both a mentor and a lifelong learner.

Work as a member of a team of librarians to design and deliver a cohesive program of reference, faculty liaison, instruction, and collection-based solutions that enhance information literacies and learning outcomes in the university.

Help to strengthen and sustain excellent library services for our diverse community of learners, faculty, and staff through insightful and energetic contributions to the team of professional librarians .

Engage with and draw from your profession and from collegial networks to shape your practice, reflecting the core competencies of the 21st century academic librarian.
  Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities, including, student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications: Master of Library/Information Science, or equivalent, from an ALA-accredited institution. Minimum of three years related work experience in an academic library setting.

Demonstrated success, grounded in theory, in working with adult learners in a diverse and dynamic environment. Demonstrated experience in integrating library learning outcomes within the instructional design cycle.

Demonstrated organizational and planning skills. Demonstrated leadership ability. Proven client-focused approach to managing change. Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication.

Demonstrated confidence with technology, and with fostering technical literacies in educational settings.
Preferred Qualifications: Credential related to education or instructional design. Experience with supporting a wide complement of vocational and academic programming offered at various levels and in diverse settings. Broad employment history particularly in public/customer service.
