Provide a safe physical environment for students, employees and visitors conducive to a quality education/work experience. Ensure campus grounds and landscapes are maintained.
Supervise and coordinate activities and staffing in shipping/receiving, mail room, buildings and grounds maintenance. Assign work orders and monitor for completion and quality. Allocate priorities and assess work performance. Administer the collective agreement. Ensure adequate staffing to meet scheduled commitments. Oversee existing contracted resources (e.g., cleaning audits, security/parking).
Monitor monthly expenditure statements. Approve purchases and charge backs for services and goods to other departments.
Assist with the maintenance, repair, and replacement of general institutional furnishings and equipment. Coordinate department requirements for special events. Attend to after-hours emergencies as necessary.
Trade qualification or a two-year diploma in a related field from an appropriately accredited institution. Minimum five years recent, related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Demonstrated understanding of staff management and WorkSafeBC regulations with strictest adherence to safety best practices. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Competency in relevant software (e.g., MS Office). Physical ability to navigate the campus buildings and grounds to effectively manage and supervise buildings and grounds maintenance work.
Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record (as specified in Vancouver Island University policy and procedures).
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an appropriately accredited institution. Ten years related experience. Supervision experience in a unionized environment.|
