Hospital Unit Coordinator Certificate Program Instructor

Duties: Provide instruction for the course entitled Unit Procedures and Observations, part of the Hospital Unit Coordinator Program. Duties include: to plan, prepare and instruct the course; to use creative adult learning strategies in the preparation and delivery of classroom learning activities; to evaluate student learning; to record and submit grades; to prepare course materials; to provide support to students' success; to work collaboratively with colleagues, program coordinator, and employers/field representatives; to attend and participate in team meetings as required.
 
  Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success through ongoing professional training, subject currency, and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and department committees; meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

 
Required Qualifications: Hospital Unit Coordinator Certificate, or equivalent, with a minimum of five years current and relevant experience in the Hospital Unit Coordinator field and a minimum of 4 years experience as an instructor/trainer working with adult learners. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the content covered in the course. Awareness and sensitivity to the needs of adult learners with diverse cultural and academic backgrounds returning to school. Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching strategies to address different learning styles and needs. Ability to develop and foster critical thinking skills and support student learning. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills in working with students, colleagues, employers and others. Excellent written and oral communication skills and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated ability to perform the duties outlined above. A high level of energy, enthusiasm and creativity. Ability to work independently and within a team context. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of relevant technology and software.
 
Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record (as specified in Vancouver Island University policy and procedures).
