The High School at VIU is an independent high school located on the Nanaimo Campus of Vancouver Island University and offers Grades 10 to 12 to international and Canadian students. The school operates within the VIU International Education Department. It provides a combined ESL and academic curriculum designed to meet the BC graduation requirements.|
Teach courses in ESL (English as a Second Language) in one or more quarters throughout the year.

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success through ongoing professional training, subject currency, and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and department committees; meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution. Current BC teacher certification. Three to five years relevant, successful teaching experience at an appropriately accredited high school.
Subject specialization with demonstrated expertise, appropriate coursework, and a strong background in the content areas. Willingness and ability to sponsor extracurricular activities. Awareness of diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles.
Master's degree from an appropriately accredited institution. Completion of relevant coursework in ESL and content methodology. Experience and demonstrated skills in teaching the content areas to international students. Class 4 BC Driver's License (permitting operation of up to a 24 passenger bus) and have a satisfactory driving record (as per VIU Policy and Procedures). Experience using technology in the classroom.|
