Work within the Faculty of International Education to support the financial tracking and reporting related to an international development project which VIU is implementing in partnership with institutions in Ukraine. Reconcile VIU's Financial Records System with the system used by the project's funder, the Canadian International Development Agency. Report to the Project Manager in International Education, and receive functional guidance from the Project Director in the Geography Department.
Identify and implement procedures for financial tracking and reporting; collect and organize receipts, quotes, invoices, time sheets, e-mails and other evidence of financial transactions and decisions. Prepare quarterly and semi-annual financial reports.
Create or modify spreadsheets in Excel. Enter data into spreadsheets using Excel and MS Project. Import data from MS Project into Excel. Reconcile FRS reports with project reports to funders.
Analyze eligibility of project costs against criteria. Prepare cost centre transfer requests for approval and action. Assign expenditures to VIU object codes and CIDA budget categories. Calculate rates and ratios. Scan documents. File using both paper and electronic systems.
One-year certificate including formal training in bookkeeping or accounting (e.g. Applied Business Technology, Accounting Assistant) from an appropriately accredited institution. Minimum 3 years' experience in a directly related area. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel. Demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to communicate financial information clearly.|
Fluent in a second language (Ukrainian preferred). Experience with VIU's Financial Records System. Knowledgeable about Ukrainian business practices and culture. Demonstrated cross-cultural experience. Proficiency in MS Project.|
