Duties: As the first point of contact via multiple methods (in-person, telephone, mail, and e-mail), use a strong understanding of Vancouver Island University to refer a variety of incoming inquiries to the appropriate areas. Assist in providing guidance and direction to members of the community. As a front-line position, diffuse conflict and use sound judgment to alert security and facilities with respect to emergency call outs.

Distribute a wide range of VIU information to multiple audiences, maintain information kiosks throughout the Nanaimo campus, and provide project and other event support for the Enrolment Management and various other departments within University Relations.

Manage the VIU information e-mail account and update the VIU events web page. Maintain a database of student ambassadors to assist with open houses, campus tours, student recruitment events, orientation week and conferences. Assist the University Relations department, as required, and assist with event coordination. Work independently with very little supervision.
 
Required Qualifications: One-year certificate in Applied Business Technology, or equivalent, from an appropriately accredited institution. One to three years' related experience and an excellent understanding of VIU. Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills. Proficiency in MS Office, web navigation and database maintenance. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and demands, work well under pressure within tight time lines, and conflict resolution skills. Applicants must have the ability to perform moderate levels of physical activity.
 
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Adobe Contribute and Omnivex software. Three to five years' experience working in a front-end service delivery department within a post-secondary environment.
