Duties: Work as part of a network team supporting an enterprise information technology environment. Respond to requests for service and trouble tickets; install configure, update and troubleshoot a wide variety of network hardware; communicate with clients, IT staff, other institutional departments and vendors by email, phone and in person to gather information and provide technical advice, new technology solutions and problem resolutions; provide technical advice and direction to front-line client support providers to enable them to answer client questions and resolve less complex problems; proactively recognize and address emergent technological issues; create and maintain documentation related to the installation, configuration and maintenance of all supported systems; research, test and deploy solutions for a wide variety of information technology problems and needs; and lead or be a member of small to long-term information technology projects.

** Duties will primarily be focused on data networking, supporting the existing network while assisting with major network equipment upgrades across the campus **
  Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities, including, student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
Required Qualifications: Two-year Information Technology diploma from an appropriately accredited institution; three to five years current, relevant and directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Proficiency in implementing and supporting a networked computing and communications environment with demonstrated strengths in the following: working in a team environment; oral and written communications; producing and maintaining high quality technical documentation; prioritizing and multitasking in a high pressure environment. Recent experience and expertise in implementing and supporting enterprise data configuration, and configuration and maintenance of network switches.
Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record (as specified in Vancouver Island University policy and procedures).

Preferred Qualifications: Recent experience and expertise in implementing and supporting telephone systems (both TDM and IP). Recent experience and expertise in Active Directory, DHCP, Radius ,and DNS administration. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a large organization, preferably with experience in a post-secondary institution.
