Vancouver Island University has three faculty devoted to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing instruction, as part of the Advanced Diploma in GIS Applications (ADGISA). This is a post-graduate diploma program delivered in two forms. Our face-to-face program takes place over two academic terms and is a popular choice for recent university graduates who wish to gain practical experience in the field and make industry contacts. Our fully online program is a popular choice for professionals worldwide who are looking for GIS certification, changes in responsibility, and career advancement.
GIS is an active area of study at VIU, with the potential for growth. ADGISA faculty are currently involved in a five-year project (2013-2018) with the government of Ukraine which involves the development of six geomatics courses, and the delivery of these courses by our partners in Ukraine. In addition, VIU has proposed a Master's in GIS program which is currently under review by the BC government.
