Workload: 0 up to 25 hours per week of direct instruction, Tuesday - Saturday (hours and schedule will vary; may require some evening work).

Duties: Prepare graduates with entry-level skills to work as an esthetician in any of the following settings or capacities: day spa, resorts, destination and cruise ship spas, hair salons, private business, performing arts industry and sales and promotion.

Instruct and evaluate student learning; record and submit grades. Prepare course materials. Collaborate with colleagues, Administrator coordinator, program advisory committee, industry and other organizations as they relate to the Esthetics program.
 
  Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success. Successful candidates will participate in activities outside the classroom including student support and department committees.
 
Required Qualifications: Esthetics Program Certificate, minimum of five years current and relevant experience in the Esthetics field, including a combination of education, instructing, training and industry experience relevant to the specific course (s) to be taught. Certification to teach adults in a post-secondary environment (e.g., Provincial Instructor Diploma), if in progress, must complete within two years.


Experience as an instructor/trainer of adult learners, demonstrating awareness and sensitivity to the needs of adult learners. Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching strategies to address different learning styles and needs. Ability to develop and foster critical thinking skills and support student learning. Excellent interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills in working with students, colleagues, and others. Excellent written and oral communication skills. A high level of energy, enthusiasm, and creativity. Ability to work independently within a team context. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of relevant computer applications. Demonstrated superior practical skills.

 
Valid OFA Level 1 Certificate required.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience managing an Esthetics business. Previous successful experience as instructor within VIU's Professional Esthetics Program.
