Valedictorian Selection ProcessValedictorian

A valedictorian gives a farewell and congratulatory speech addressed to the students, their guests, and the institution. There will be one valedictorian selected per ceremony who will be given five minutes to address their peers.

Valedictorians must be confirmed graduates at the time of the ceremony. Students attending convocation as a "participant" (i.e., expected to graduate within a month of the ceremony) are not eligible to perform the duties of a valedictorian.

The valedictorians are selected by the students in the graduating class, based on video auditions that will be posted online for viewing. In the event that only one nomination has been submitted, that graduate will be declared the valedictorian by acclamation and no election will be held.

You can indicate your interest in being elected as valedictorian by filling in the Valedictorian Nomination form with your personal information and the names, student numbers, and signatures of three students who support your nomination. The nominators must be students who have applied to graduate and who have RSVP'd to the same convocation ceremony as you.

You will also be asked to submit a video presentation of you answering the questions "Why should I be your valedictorian?" If you are not able to film the presentation yourself, we can make arrangements to film the presentation for you.
