Design Guidelines and Perfomance Specifications

Vancouver Island University's Design Guidelines and Performance Specifications exist to guide the design of the institution's capital development.  Their goal is to ensure functionality, consistency, durability, quality and maintainability of university's public realm, buildings and systems.

The Design Guidelines and Performance Specifications provide general direction to the design team; to ensure the design meets the unique needs of the institution, and to outline which products, systems and methods of construction are acceptable. While some guidelines and specifications cannot be changed, others are flexible, so long as the intended objectives are achieved.  Design teams are thus encouraged to propose cost effective and value-added solutions that meet or exceed these standards.

These guidelines are not intended to restrict the design process, nor do they relieve designers from their professional responsibility of complying with all current codes, legislation, standards or project specific requirements.
