Conference Funding

2023-24 Deadlines

  • September 22, 2023, for conferences between May 1 and December 31, 2023
  • January 19, 2024, for conferences between September 1, 2023, and April 30, 2024
  • May 17, 2024, for conferences between January 1 and August 31, 2024

Eligibility

  • Student Conference Funding is available for active participation only. Additional funding is available to all VIU students through VIU Students’ Union Conference Attendance Grant
  • Applicants must demonstrate that the conference at which they are presenting their scholarly work is related to the student’s field of study
  • The work presented at the conference must have been completed while at VIU and must have been supervised by a VIU faculty member
  • Funds cannot be used where participation at a conference is required as a prerequisite to receiving course credits
  • Students may only receive travel and conference funding once per academic year (Sept 1 - Aug 31)

  • General Info Sheet - information about Student Conference Funding, including eligibility, amounts, the application process, adjudication and what documents you will need to provide to receive your award. Note that funds are awarded as reimbursement, not in advance.

*You only need to complete one application form to be considered for any of VIU's student conference funds including STAC, Jessica Wilde and Stephanie Buckingham per funding cycle.

Funding Available

Please note amounts listed are the maximum available. Actual amounts are determined by funding levels and the number of applications. For destination-based, support expenses may include travel, food, accommodation, and registration. 

Student Travel and Conference Funding

Students must be actively presenting and sharing knowledge to receive funding.
