Duties: The Director is responsible for the management of all current and future Graduate Business Studies programs. These include the MBA, coordination of joint MBA/MSc.IM requirements with the University of Hertfordshire, UK; liaison with International Education regarding the Master of Arts, International Development Administration and Management; and other certificates, diplomas and degrees.

Student and program success is fostered through the support provided by the Director, Graduate Business Studies. This involves working with other institutional areas including International Education and Student Affairs by initiating new strategies for student engagement and managing student concerns and appeals, within the institutional framework.

The Director, Graduate Business Studies reports to the Dean, Faculty of Management. As well, the Director works collaboratively with the Dean, International Education or designates, in matters relating to international marketing and recruitment, international admissions, services for international students and developing opportunities for students and Faculty of Management faculty and staff to study and conduct research abroad. There will be an expectation of some international and domestic recruitment and partnership development.

Duties include:
  • Academic planning and implementation of the Graduate Business Studies programs, in consultation with the respective Department Chairs and Dean.

  • Assisting with the development and implementation of international and domestic marketing plans and student recruitment.
  • Budget planning and implementation.
  • Hiring and assigning instructional duties to faculty, in consultation with the respective Department Chairs and Dean.
  • Mediating student and faculty academic conflicts.
  • Timetable and workload planning and implementation, in consultation with the respective Department Chairs and Dean.
  • Advising graduate students on matters related to academic progress.
  • Managing appeals and other issues relating to student conduct, within the institutional framework.
  • Administering a plan for faculty supervision of students' applied business projects.
  • Collaborating with the Centre for Experiential Learning to develop student internships and to prepare students for employment.
  • Ensuring a positive student experience through extra curricular activities pertinent to student and program success.
  • Creating strong business and community relationships.
  • Supporting faculty research and professional development.
  • There will be an expectation of some international and domestic recruitment and partnership development.
  • Establishing and developing supportive relationships with post-secondary partner institutions.
  • Supervises the Graduate Programs Administrative Assistant and student tutors.

     
  • Required Qualifications: Doctorate or terminal degree in business or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution, or the equivalent combination of a Masters' degree and professional experience. Professional experience in business or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution. Minimum of three years of leadership experience in a post-secondary institution, some experience at a management level in a business organization, experience teaching in an academic setting in a Business discipline (particularly to international students), intercultural skills, conflict resolution skills, evaluation of instruction, experience managing student and faculty expectations, marketing, recruitment experience and an ability to establish supportive relationships with the business community and with post-secondary partner institutions.
     
    Preferred Qualifications: Significant post-secondary management and leadership experience. Experience working in an international and/or intercultural context.
