SCHOLARSHIPS, AWARDS & BURSARIES

VIU Entrance Scholarships & Awards - Deadline: March 31, 2017

  • Please note, any information entered into the profile after the deadline date WILL NOT considered.
  • Students are required to update their information each academic year, to maintain eligibility for scholarships, awards and bursaries.

These scholarships and awards are available for:

  • current Grade 12 High School students, who will be graduating in the present year, and commencing studies at VIU in the within the upcoming year; OR
  • students enrolling in a full time university program, for the very first time since high school; OR
  • students who have had an interruption of university studies, (more than one year), and will be re-entering fll time studies to complete their university program.

Process for students to apply:

Students who will be new to VIU for the Fall 2017 semester, should complete the "Scholarship/Award/Bursary Profile" by March 31, 2017. Note you must have a VIU Student record to apply.

  • Log on to your Student Record and complete the "Scholarship/Award/Bursary Profile" information
  • The "Scholarship/Award/Bursary Profile" is located on left hand side, on the scroll down menu
  • Profiles must be completed and submitted by the March 31st deadline

 

SCHOOL NOMINATED SCHOLARSHIPS: (students do not submit applications)

VIU President's and VIU Chancellor's Entrance Scholarships for High School Students

Endorsement forms for the VIU President's and VIU Chancellor's Entrance scholarships, are completed and submitted by school Principals, and only one submission per school will be accepted. Forms will be available in March 2017.

Deadline for submission: Friday, April 28, 2017

VIU International Study Abroad Awards for current VIU students

These scholarships and awards are available to VIU students, who are currently studying at VIU, and who will be doing a Study Abroad, Field School or Internship program, during the current academic year.

  • VIU International Study Abroad Application - please note the process to apply for these awards has changed. Students will be required to complete their "Scholarship/Award/Bursary Profile" in the spring - there will no longer be paper applications.

  • Deadline has also changed from February 28th to March 31st


 

General Scholarships & Awards for current VIU Students

  • "Scholarship/Award/Bursary Profile" - Deadline March 31st
  • Please note, any information entered into your profile from a previous year WILL NOT be brought forward to the next academic year.
  • Students are required to update their information each academic year, to maintain eligibility for scholarships, awards and bursaries.
  • Log into your student record now to update your profile by the deadline date.

These scholarships and awards are available to VIU students, who are currently studying at VIU during the Spring semester, and who will be continuing studies in the Fall semester. Note that some awards are available for students who will be graduating from their VIU program after the spring semester.

Process for current VIU students to apply:
  • Log on to your Student Record and complete the "Scholarship/Award/Bursary Profile" information
  • The "Scholarship/Award/Bursary Profile" is located on left hand side, on the scroll down menu
  • Profiles will be open for entry in early September, and must be completed and submitted by the March 31st deadline

Note that you may update and make changes to your profile up until the March 31st deadline date. Your final submission at that time will be used for selection purposes.

  • To be considered for Scholarships, you must maintain an 80% course load at VIU, and have attained a semester and cumulative gpa of at least 3.5
  • To be considered for Awards, you must maintain a 60% course load at VIU, and have attained a semester and cumulative gpa of at least 3.0
  • International students are eligible to apply for Scholarships & Awards, except those where Financial Need is a criterion.
The value of some awards may vary dependent on investment returns.

 

Project Hero

This program was started in 2009 by Retired General Rick Hillier and Honorary Lt. Colonel Kevin Reed, and is a unique program which provides undergraduate scholarships to children of fallen soldiers. Commencing in September 2009, many of Canada's finest colleges and universities are offering tuition and in some cases, support with room and board in the first year, to children of Canadian Forces personnel who have lost their lives while serving in an active mission.

To be eligible, the applicant must be:

  • A dependant of a Canadian Forces personnel, deceased while serving in an active mission

  • Under the age of twenty-six

  • Registered as a full-time undergraduate student at the university, in a program of study eligible for funding by the Province of the location of school

  • Meet the academic requirements for entry to the academic program for which the recipient applies and maintain satisfactory academic standing in the program

If you meet the above criteria, complete the PROJECT HERO APPLICATION FORM and submit to the VIU Financial Aid & Awards Office, located in Building 200, Room 205. Note there is no deadline for this application.

Eligibility to the scholarship program, of Canadian Forces personnel deceased while serving in an active mission, will be determined by Canadian Forces criteria.


 

General Bursaries for current VIU students

These bursaries are available to VIU students, who are enrolled and studying at VIU during the Fall semester, and who will be continuing studies in the Spring semester. These bursaries are NOT available to students who are just beginning their studies in the Spring semester.

Process for current VIU students to apply:
  • "Scholarship/Award/Bursary Profile" - Deadline October 31st
  • Please note, any information entered into your profile from a previous year WILL NOT be brought forward to the next academic year.
  • Students are required to update their information each academic year, to maintain eligibility for scholarships, awards and bursaries.
  • Log into your student record now to update your profile by the deadline date.
     

Note that you may update and make changes to your profile up until the October 31st deadline date. Your final submission at that time will be used for selection purposes.

  • To be considered for Bursaries, you must maintain a 60% course load at VIU, and have attained a semester and cumulative gpa of at least 2.0
  • International students are not eligible to apply for Bursaries.

Once the bursary deadline of October 31st has closed, please continue to update your profile if you wish to be considered for the March 31st Scholarship & Award deadline.

  • Please note that any information entered into the profile after the March deadline date WILL NOT be brought forward to the next academic year.
  • Profiles will re-open at the beginning of the fall semester, and students will be required to update their information at that time for each academic year.
