SUBJECT:      2004 - 2005 Tuition

This is to confirm that the Vancouver Island University Board at its meeting held April 22, 2004 approved an amendment to Bylaw #9, Fees and Charges for Instruction.  The amendment calls for a 12% increase to tuition fees as follows:

Academic and Career Program Courses [Note:  Includes Distance Education]

$114 per credit hour

Applied Programs

[Note:  Includes Entry Level Trades and Apprenticeship Programs]

$342 per month for full-time students, and $205 per month for part-time students

English-as-a-Second Language Courses

Remain unchanged at $94 per course, to a maximum of $376 per semester.

Adult Basic Education Courses

Remain unchanged.

Note:  The $50 per course Commitment and Support Fee continues to apply to all students entering ABE courses in levels three to six.

Access Programs

Remain unchanged at $.58 per hour for courses of variable duration.

International Students

$4,500 (CDN) per semester.

International ESL students

Remain unchanged at $3,900 CDN per semester.

Co-op Education for Domestic Students

$506 per semester

Co-op Education for International Students

Remain unchanged ($1,250 per semester).

MBA Program for Domestic Students

Remain unchanged

MBA Program - $14,000, includes textbooks

Foundation Program - $2,100

MBA Program for International Students

Remain unchanged

MBA Program - $21,000, includes textbooks

Foundation Program - $4,200

However, as a reprieve to students, effective August 1, 2004, and for the 2004-2005 fiscal year ending March 31, 2005, Academic and Career Programs and Trades/Vocational Programs will see a 2.2% tuition reduction as follows:

$336 per month for full-time students, and $202 per month for part-time students
