All new members to the VIU Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC) are required by WorkSafeBC (WSBC) to complete a prescribed course within six months of joining the committee.  VIU has adopted and customized the online training developed by WSBC to meet this requirement.

The required training is offered in two parts.  Completion of both Part 1 and 2 will satisfy the new member training requirements.

If you are a new committee member, please complete the WSBC online course as shown below. After completion, you will meet with a Health and Safety Advisor to complete your employer training component.

This online course provides an overview of safety committee responsibilities and legislation, and is offered online through WorkSafeBC (WSBC).  The course takes approximately 2 hours to complete and is the first step towards completing the required training.

Please note: The last page of the course indicates a "facilitated workshop" must be taken.  Please disregard this as Part 2, The VIU JOHSC training will cover this material and fulfill the requirements.
