- History of Education - Selected Moments of the 20th Century
This a very useful site. It consists of short descriptions of a variety of 'educational episodes' that took place over the last century. Organized by decades, the site provides concise notes on myriad education-related topics, from pedagogical methods to popular music. Although its current emphasis is on educational developments in North America, the site has a broad international scope. The site was created and is maintained by Professor Daniel Schugurensky in the Department of Adult Education, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education [OISE], University of Toronto. Many of the entries are written by OISE/UT students. New material is constantly being added.

"A resource for and by scholars." This new (January 2004) web site is edited by Professor Sherman Dorm at the University of South Florida. It is a place "where colleagues can describe their ongoing research, post syllabi or links to teaching web sites, discuss archives and other source materials, and post news about outlets for research and other discussions." This promises to be an important meeting place for students of education and childhood.

Unfortunately this excellent web site, with resources from all over the world, closed in February 2003. The site was maintained at Nijmegan University in The Netherlands by Professor Henk van Setten. (Thanks to Professor van Setten for creating and editing the site for so many years.) Happily, older versions of the site are accessible on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.

statistics on enrolment, expenditure, attendance and instruction in
Canadian elementary and secondary schools, and post-secondary
institutions, from the 1800s to the 1970s. Many tables pertain to
British Columbia.

The ILT is located at Teacher's College, Columbia University, in New York. The ILT web site includes a section on Digital Text Projects. The projects focus on influential educators and philosphoers, such as John Locke, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and John Dewey. Many other resources relating to the history and practice of education are available on this attractive and well-organized site.
