The Manager, Education Abroad is responsible for the development and implementation of policy, procedure and programs that promote learning abroad, enriching the educational experience of students and faculty. |
Working collaboratively across the campus this position will facilitate and support the planning, marketing and budgeting of out-of-country internships, exchanges, field schools, and practicum placements. The Manager provides guidance and expertise in order to minimize the risks associated with the university's out-of-country activities and to ensure that the activities implemented are consistent with VIU's vision.
This position will manage and coordinate International Travel and Internationalization Grants for faculty and staff, Education Abroad bursaries for VIU students, and scholarship/sponsorship programs. The Manager will also negotiate and manage student exchange contracts with overseas universities; advises incoming and outgoing exchange students on programs, enrolment, credit transfer and funding.
Finally, this position will conduct orientations for students and faculty preparing to travel abroad; oversees budgets for all education abroad and internationalization activities; oversees student employees and volunteers.
The Manager provides direction to the Coordinator, International Projects and Internationalization and assists in the planning and implementation of internationalization activities across VIU's campuses
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Minimum 5 years of experience developing relevant contracts, budgets, and programs within a university setting. Proven cross-cultural competence, including experience living or working abroad. Experience in managing diverse groups of faculty, staff and students. Excellent communication and organizational skills with experience in designing and delivering training sessions and workshops. Knowledge of International Education programs, policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience in managing education abroad activities and in risk management.|
Master's degree in a relevant field. Proficiency in a language other than English. Experience living or working in the Global South.|
