Duties: Reporting to the Manager of Contracts and Group Programs, and working in collaboration with the Intercultural and Group Programs (IGP) Team (including the Intercultural Program Coordinator, Intercultural and Group Programs Administrative Assistant, and Student Activity Leaders), this position provides support for the Cultural Connections program (student activities), group programs, orientations, student events, and international student engagement.

To coordinate, book, plan, market and facilitate student activities:
Provide administrative support; Update activity calendars and help maintain departmental databases; Drive groups and participants on student activities to and from planned events; Develop, implement and lead activities; Develop, update, and implement risk management policies and procedures; Maintain activity budgets; Book various forms of transportation, including charters, ferries and vehicle rentals; Book various planned activities and facilities, including connecting with community providers and dealing a wide range of indoor and outdoor recreational facilities; Create marketing and promotional material, including posters and videos, as well as provide marketing support via social media and/or presenting to students to promote upcoming activities; Actively participate in and lead various student activities; Supervise participating students and Student Activity Leaders; Facilitate the distribution, signing, and collection of waiver forms; Manage activity payments in cash, sign contracts and pay supplier and contractor deposits and invoices; Support the IGP Team in the facilitation of program evaluations; Complete pre-trip inspections of vehicles and activity set-up; and organize and conduct campus and community tours.
This job requires some heavy lifting and long periods of activity and/or sustained concentration.
 
Required Qualifications: Two year community college or institute program in the field of tourism, physical education, outdoor recreation, education, global studies, or business. Minimum two years experience leading students and/or clients in a variety of recreational and/or cultural activities; Experience in risk management and first aid/safety protocols. Two to three years driving experience. Experience working with international students and/or clients in multicultural settings.

Must possess a valid Class 4 BC Driver's Licence.
 
Valid OFA Level 1 Certificate required (or obtain as per CUPE Article 23.03 c).

Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in a language other than English; Knowledge of local tourism opportunities, festivals, events, geographical areas, local transportation options, history of parks and natural science; Knowledge of current VIU policies and procedures; Experience with mentoring, training, and supervision; Experience with recreational activities such as canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, caving, hiking, skating, and skiing.
