Duties: Reporting to the Director, Student Affairs and as required to the Associate Vice President, Student Affairs (AVPSA), the Associate Director, Student Affairs (ADSA) enacts university policies and procedures related to student conduct, sexual misconduct, violence risk and threat assessment, and the death of a student. The ADSA oversees the Student Conduct Support Office and leads and coordinates the Collaborative Assessment, Response and Education (CARE) committee, a multi-disciplinary team that provides direction, recommendations and support in response to situations involving students in extreme distress, experiencing personal crisis, at risk of self-harm or harm to others, and/or displaying inappropriate or troubling behaviours. The ADSA is the university's primary contact with local RCMP regarding matters related to student conduct and serves as Chair of the Risk and Threat Assessment Team (RTAT).
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Psychology, Law or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution
  • Training in Violence Risk and Threat Assessment
  • Training in Sexual Misconduct/Violence Response and Investigation
  • FIPPA training
  • Minimum 5 years' work related experience in a post-secondary environment
  • Experience investigating and adjudicating non-academic student misconduct
  • Experience managing highly confidential and sensitive issues while maintaining confidentiality and neutrality
  • Experience working effectively and calmly under pressure, meeting deadlines and managing changing priorities
  • Experience creating a non-threatening atmosphere and communicating in a manner that is approachable and invites open dialogue
  • Experience developing and applying exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication and facilitation skills
  • Experiences that require organizational, decision-making, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience interpreting and applying a range of institutional policies related to personal safety and conduct management.
