Duties: Support the development and enhancement of Thuy'she'num'Tu'Smun'eem (Indigenous Youth Camp) including working with scheduling workshops, bookings, travel, and maintaining up to date information on promotional materials

Promoting & doing presentations on Thuy'she'num'Tu'Smun'eem to Indigenous Youth in Grades 9 to 12.

Act as main point of contact with internal staff and external clients for Thuy'she'num'Tu'Smun'eem.

Work closely with Aboriginal Projects Coordinator & Elder Support in the Office of Aboriginal Education & Engagement in supporting the 'Su'luqw'a' Community Cousins Program:
  • Coordinate and schedule meetings with students in Su'luqw'a.
  • Schedule and organize events with other student leadership groups.
  • Assist in development of Shush'u'yulh(Alumni) and creating opportunities for shared events.
  • Assist in coordination of outreach with 'Su'luqw'a'and VIU and Nanaimo community.
  • Support the development and enhancement of Thuy'she'num'Tu'Smun'eem(Aboriginal summer program for Indigenous Youth in Grades 9 to 12)
  • Work with Shush'u'yulh Alumni)

    Assist in other related duties with the Aboriginal Projects Coordinator & Elder Support.
     
Required Qualifications:
  • 2 year diploma in Education, Health & Human Services, First Nations Studies or another related field from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Minimum two years' experience with a knowledge of 'Su'luqw'a' Community Cousins and Vancouver Island University.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal communities.
     
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of and familiarity with VIU technical systems, software and hardware; administrative processes; internal communication networks and the workings of other external institutions.
