Duties: The Visual Art Program in the Department of Art and Design at Vancouver Island University offers a BA Major, a BA Minor, and Diploma programs in studio-based art. Faculty members are practicing artists who are committed to teaching, and sharing their professional skills and technical expertise with students. Providing a sound foundation in visual art practices, faculty encourage experimentation and positive risk-taking in the expansion of individual expression.

The Visual Art department is seeking a temporary instructor(s) to teach one or two courses in the Fall 2018 semester:

ARTS 120 - Two Dimensional Design (Mondays, 8:30-11:30 a.m.)
ARTS 212 - Survey of European and American Art from 1900 to the Present (Wednesdays, 1:00-4:00 p.m.)

This position includes course prep, marking of student projects, and departmental work.

  Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
Required Qualifications: M.F.A. in studio art from an appropriately accredited institution or preferred equivalent with experience in visual art for ARTS 120.

M.A. in art history from an appropriately accredited institution for ARTS 212.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior teaching experience, preferably at the post-secondary level.
