Part-time Certificate Program

This non-credit part-time Certificate Program provides introductory training for those entering the field of mental health services - or as a refresher for those currently working in the field.

Career Opportunities:

The program is a valuable complement to other related training for those interested in entry-level work in the mental health field. Graduates of programs such as Home Support/Resident Care Attendant, LPN, Community Support Worker, Child and Youth Care, Social Work and other programs in the health and social services will gain introductory skills for work in mental health settings. The program will also provide an opportunity for existing workers to update and enhance their skills.

  • Approaches To Psychiatric Care And Behaviour Management
  • Rehabilitation And Teaching Strategies
  • Stress Management For Mental Health Workers
  • Mental Health And The Law
  • Crisis Intervention And Anger Management
  • Navigating Community Resources
  • Assessment For Certification (optional)

Course Delivery:

Part-time, non-credit Certificate Program. Courses are scheduled on a part-time basis in a workshop format, with daytime and weekend classroom-based delivery. Certificate can be completed over two semesters, or longer dependent on the participant.

No application is required. Simply register for courses in each semester.

Program Requirements:

There are no entry requirements for this program, and no application for admission is required. Check stated prerequisites for individual courses.

Note: Admission to this program does not necessarily meet the requirements for other programs at Vancouver Island University.

This program is not eligible for student loans.
