Positive Space Alliance

The Positive Space Alliance was formed in the spring of 2003 to improve the climate at Vancouver Island University for 2SLGBTQ+ students and employees. At the inaugural meeting a number of issues facing 2SLGBTQ+ students and employees were identified: the use of negative language towards gays and lesbians in public spaces on campus, a lack of a campus community, invisibility of 2SLGBTQ+ people and issues on campus, and the need for safe places where 2SLGBTQ+ students and employees can be open about their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Our first project is a Positive Space campaign. Once our campaign is successfully launched we plan to undertake further initiatives.

The Alliance is made up 2SLGBTQ+ students, employees and heterosexual allies. We welcome new members, whether you want to assist with the Positive Space campaign or want to get involved in developing and planning new initiatives. To become involved contact the email address listed below. We can give you information on the next meeting and current activities.
