All Bachelor of Education – Year 1 and Year 3 applicants at Vancouver Island University are required to complete an online assessment, the Casper Test, to be eligible for admission. Casper is a 100-120 minute, online assessment that measures different competencies and attributes that we believe are important for successful students and graduates of our program. It complements the Grade Point Average (GPA) calculation we use for applicant screening. In implementing Casper, we are trying further to enhance fairness and objectivity in our selection process.

In order to take Casper, you will be responsible for securing access to a laptop or desktop computer with webcam and audio capabilities and a reliable internet connection with an internet speed of at least 1.5 Mbps and an upload speed of at least 2 Mbps. You will require the following for both account creation and completing Altus Suite:

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Valid email address
  • Desktop or laptop computer
  • Working webcam with microphone
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection

Please note that we will not be using the Snapshot feature.

To account for identity verification and payment processing timeline, ensure that you register for your test at least three days before your preferred test date and time. Last-minute bookings are not recommended. If you require testing accommodations for Casper, you will need to submit an Accommodations Request Form signed by you and your qualified professional 3 weeks in advance of your desired test date. Learn more about Casper accommodations.

Please direct any inquiries about the test to support@acuityinsights.app. Alternatively, you may reach out to the Altus Suite Support Team through the chat bubble in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen on the Acuity Insights website or in your Acuity Insights account.

Casper test results are valid for one admissions cycle. Applicants who have already taken Casper in previous years will therefore be expected to re-take it for this application.
