Island College gets high marks

One year after its opening, Malaspina College receives high marks for its progress from the Academic board for higher education in BC. "The report says an enterprising student association has promoted a wide range of cultural, social, and athletic events, and that students are well represented on college management committees."

Bathtub races 1974

Malapsina College's 1974 Bathtub was built by Instructor George Nielsen's welding class and sponsored by two student councils. Despite finishing 86th in the Nanaimo-Vancouver race, the team did a commendable job making the bathtub and getting to the finish line!

Bed Races 1978
Malaspina College Bed Races, October 1978. The goal was to race hospital beds on wheels around Malaspina College's treacherous 5th Street Campus. The bed's 2 occupants had to remain on the bed.

Barrel race 1979

Malaspina College's 4th Annual Great Beer Barrel Races was held March 23, 1979. Teams competed to roll empty beer barrels from the old Kennedy Street campus up the hill to Malaspina College's 5th Street campus.
