Wireless Networking

Secure wireless is available at all Vancouver Island University campuses using either the viu-secure or s-wisp wireless connections. Data transmitted over these secure wireless connections is encrypted, securing it during network transit. This is important if you use wireless networking for confidential transactions such as accessing your student record, online banking, and online shopping by credit card.

To access wireless, you must be a currently enrolled student and have a VIU student computer account, or an employee with a VIU employee computer account.

The eduroam (education roaming) network is a world-wide roaming service that allows students, faculty, and staff access to wireless services at cooperating universities without obtaining a guest account. Users visiting participating institutions can login to the eduroam wireless network using the same credentials they would at their home institutions.

If you are not a VIU student or employee, and require internet access while visiting VIU, we are pleased to offer our viu-guest wireless network.
